WEEK 10: RESEARCH TOOLS

Biography.com
This biography website (https://www.biography.com/search) is a great place to get background information about famous people. I searched David Ben-Gurion, Jackson Pollock and Roald Dahl. I found great articles, photos and videos about these famous people. I then searched more obscure, famous people such as Eddie Mabo (prominent fighter for Aboriginal land rights) and author Anne Holm. I could not find these people in the database. So it's a great research tool but doesn't contain information on everyone who you may consider famous or research-worthy.

SweetSearch
This website is a search engine for students (http://www.sweetsearch.com/). I searched a few issues which I consider important but which are probably only relevant to Australians. This research website provided me with many good quality articles from excellent sources. I would recommend this website as a great place to start research for a project or for teachers who a creating a topic based unit of study.

  1. Although it does not cover everyone, I could see myself using Biography.com in the classroom. It seems like a great tool for English language learners to learn about famous people and talk about them. Thanks for the post!

  2. Hi Jenny!

I explored different websites, so I enjoyed reading your post because it provided me with some good suggestions and insights about the particular tools you choose. I think that although biography.com does not contain information on everyone considered famous, this website is a good start for researching the larger, more iconic people.
